In today’s book post, I have decided to compile a list of movies I absolutely adored beyond measure. They all focus on a bookish theme in some form or another. As much as I love to read a lot, there always time to enjoy a good movie and unwind. I hope you enjoy the list I have put together. Many of these movies I have seen more than once! ♥
I would like everyone to pay special attention to movie #1 on our list titled The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. I have placed this one on the very top of the list for a reason. It is easily my current favorite movie on earth at the moment. It has everything that I love. The movie is filled with drama, love, books, writing, history, and everything my heart desires. It has all the feels! The main character, whose name is Juliet is everything I admire and strive to be. She is serious goals! Thanks for reading and please leave any bookish movies you know of in the comments below! Now without further adieu, here is the list of bookish movies I love:
#1 The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
London, 1946. Juliet (Lily James), a charismatic and free-spirited writer receives a letter from a member of a mysterious literary club started in Nazi-occupied Guernsey. Her curiosity piqued, Juliet decides to visit the island. There she meets the delightfully eccentric members of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, including Dawsey (Michiel Huisman), the rugged and intriguing farmer who wrote her the letter. As the secrets from their wartime past unfold, Juliet’s growing attachment to the island, the book club and her affection for Dawsey will change the course of her life forever.
Based on the beloved international bestselling book, The Book Thief tells the story of an extraordinary, spirited young girl sent to live with a foster family in WWII Germany. Intrigued by the only book she brought with her, she begins collecting books as she finds them. With the help of her new parents and a secret guest under the stairs, she learns to read and creates a magical world that inspires them all.

Rating:PG-13 (for some violence and intense depiction of thematic material)
When he falls ill on his way home from school, 15 year-old Michael Berg is rescued by Hanna, a woman twice his age. The two begin an unexpected and passionate affair only for Hanna to suddenly and inexplicably disappear. Eight years later, Michael, now a young law student observing Nazi war trials, meets his former lover again, under very different circumstances. Hanna is on trial for a hideous crime, and as she refuses to defend herself, Michael gradually realizes his boyhood love may be guarding a secret she considers to be more shameful than murder.
Rating:R (for some scenes of sexuality and nudity)
Keating (Robin Williams) introduces his students to poetry, and his free-thinking attitude and the liberating philosophies of the authors he introduces to his class have a profound effect on his students, especially Todd (Ethan Hawke), who would like to be a writer; Neil ( Robert Sean Leonard), who dreams of being an actor, despite the objections of his father; Knox (Josh Charles), a hopeless romantic; Steven (Allelon Ruggiero), an intellectual who learns to use his heart as well as his head; Charlie (Gale Hansen), who begins to lose his blasé attitude; unconventional Gerard (James Waterston); and practical Richard (Dylan Kussman). Dead Poets Society was nominated for four Academy Awards.
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar (R) winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe (R) nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award (R) winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts. Directed by Oscar (R) winner Bill Condon based on the 1991 animated film, “Beauty and the Beast” is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken.
Rating:PG (for some action violence, peril and frightening images.)

Interesting post! The only movie on this list that I’ve seen is number two. For this list, I’d add the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries series! Since Aurora is a librarian, I figured it would be a good suggestion.
The Dead Poet’s Society is one of my favorite movies of all time! I can’t remember if I watched it for the first time in MS/HS but it broke my heart and I fell in love with it. The passion of the students, the sadness and pain some of them go through, and the big incident… I cried SO hard! Robin Williams ❤️
The first time I watched it I think was in middle school and just couldn’t appreciate it back then. When Robin passed away I decided to watch a movie of his because he was one of kind and my favorite. So watched Dead Poets society and just fell in love. Such a good movie and great acting !
Your top four are all favourites of mine. I’ve not seen Beauty and the Beast and would not have connected it with books. A good excuse to watch that now!
I picked beauty and the best because Belle is perpetual bookworm and lots of bookish reference even in the soundtrack. Love it. Especially Emna Watson as Belle. She is perfect!
Have you seen Ever After? It’s a retelling of Cinderella and the main character has a great love of books, especially Utopia by Thomas More. Great cast too.
Thank you for introducing the film that made your #1 spot into my life. The actor who plays Dawsey was in The Haunting Of Hill House on Netflix and I have this weird thing for him and didn’t know he was in other things and yeah gonna shut up now lol, Great post btw! Dead Poets Society looks incredible too.
I just recently watched the Dead Poets Society for the first time (yes, I know I’m way late). It is such a beautiful movie! In fact, all these movies are great (I haven’t seen The Reader, but the rest are some of my favorites).
I’ve seen 1, 2 and 4. I liked very much The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society book, I also enjoyed watching the movie. No.4 is one of my all-time favorites. ❤
What a great list! The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society has been on my to-watch list for a while. Unfortunately it isn’t available on Dutch Netflix, but fingers crossed it might be added at some point.
Oh I haven’t actually seen the Jane Austen Book Club, it was on my list of movies to watch but somehow forgot! Thank you, will make that movie the next I watch! ❤ ❤ ❤
Right?! Aren’t they amazing movies? I really did enjoy them so much and watched The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society movie at least 4x already! ❤ ❤ ❤
Hahahhaha you’re so right! Actually these are 2 rare occasions where the movie is as great as the book. I read the reader a long time ago, so I’m thinking about reading it again! Kate Winslet blew my mind!
Me too. It is one of my favorite movies by him and he was an amazing actor and person. Forever will miss seeing him in the movies. The Dead Poet’s society is one of the best movies on earth in my opinion! What other movies do you like by him? ❤
Oof, several. Patch Adams was probably my favorite serious movie of his. Hook and Flubber were childhood favorites too, and his voice acting for Genie!
Dead Poet’s Society is my all-time favorite! I love all of Robin Williams’ serious roles. Good Morning Vietnam was fantastic, also, along with World According to Garp….the list goes on. Meeting him was on my bucket list. Very sad that he is no longer with us. He was the true meaning of talent.
I couldn’t have said it better Karen! He was the true meaning of talent and one of kind. It would have been amazing to meet him! Thank you for commenting on my post. I really did enjoy Good Morning Vietnam too. Was a great movie!

It is literally one of my favorite movies ever. If it isn’t added, I would rent or buy it at least if you can spare the money!
